Brochures Popular Tourist Items for Civil War Anniversary

With April marking the 150th anniversary of the start of the American Civil War, many tourist locations and agencies are promoting their businesses with new tourist brochures, events, commemorative items and other materials designed to remind Americans of this important period in U.S. history.

For many local governments and chambers of commerce, the preferred method of promoting events is through brochures, as departments from Alabama to Virginia have released new pamphlets and print items to help tourists navigate the historical landscape and learn a thing or two along the way.

"Contemporary and historical illustrations guide visitors to area sites and lead them to envision the actions of the opposing armies surrounding those engagements," points out the Virginia Gazette in reference to a recently released Williamsburg brochure.

"The inclusion of little-known facts and stories … provides insight into the impact that these battles and subsequent Union occupation had on so many lives and places in the Historic Triangle [of Virginia]," the source adds.

More importantly, print tourist materials provide visitors and readers with material that can be returned to and remembered at a moment's notice.
