Printing Tips for Warning Labels

Depending on your industry and type of product, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) provides detailed requirements on what should be included in your warning labels. Below are some design tips for you to make the most out of your label printing.

  1. Be straightforward. Use simple words and provide exact instructions to avoid confusion. It also helps to be specific For example, “Burn Hazard” may be overlooked but “Caution: Hot Surface. Do Not Touch” leaves no room for misinterpretation.
  2. Use universal symbols. Some consumers who don’t speak your language may encounter warning labels. Make your design easy to understand with common icons and symbols.
  3. Communicate with colors. Administration (OSHA) has established color guidelines for this purpose. Color psychology suggests that warning labels are printed prominently in red, orange, or yellow because they suggest caution and danger.

FAQs

How soon can I receive my order?
This depends on your selected printing turnaround time plus shipping transit time. You can use the order calculator to check the shipping estimate of your labels. Input your ZIP code to get rates and the estimated shipping arrival dates.

What’s the difference between labels that are individually cut and in roll format?
Individually cut labels have a wide range of size options and are cut individually. Our roll labels are presented in a roll form for easier machine application. If you are ordering less than 250 pieces, we recommend individually cut labels. If you need more than 250 pieces, roll labels are a better option.

What warning label material should I choose?
This depends on your label application and the type of product. For general indoor label applications, 70 lb. label and white premium sticker are the most popular materials. They come uncoated but you can add gloss or matte coating for extra protection from scuffs and scratches. For products that will be exposed to water and refrigeration, we recommend our most durable materials for labels: white vinyl and BOPP.
