What is the Future of Print?

While economic recoveries are almost always painstakingly slow, this one has been especially difficult, considering the untold number of unemployed professionals, foreclosed homes, bankrupt small businesses and lost fortunes left in its wake.

For that reason, it will be interesting to observe how certain industries emerge from the downturn's grip, especially considering the technological advances that have seemed to progress even through the recession.

The printing industry will be a good case study. While the market has seen gains in commercial printing shipments lately, it has also noted major declines in advertising revenue.

Even so, as print industry commentator Joe Webb put it in a recent industry seminar, the business is only expected to grow in coming years – albeit with a renewed focus and business model.

"I strongly believe that print service providers are well positioned to be the primary go-to source for communications logistics, and that is accomplished by ensuring the proper infrastructure to support the development, distribution and maintenance of content across multiple channels," he said according to WhatTheyThink magazine, "as well as staying current to be able to rapidly address new channels as they emerge."
