8 Top Design Conferences: Coming to a City Near You in 2014

 There’s a lot happening in the design world in 2014, and a host of conferences to highlight it all. Here’s a list of 8 exciting design-oriented conferences you might want to check out this year:

1. SXSW Interactive: March 7 – 11

Austin, TX

This conference is heavily focused on up-and-coming technology and is sure to impress. Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton will be the keynote speaker on the last day of the event (March 11). Also, Guy Kawasaki of Apple fame will be speaking with Mark Cuban, the billionaire entrepreneur, on a panel March 8. Exciting!

 2. O’Reilly Fluent: March 11 – 13

San Francisco, CA

The conference where UX/UI designers get together to discuss HTML5, the future of web, and all things design related. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about developers and also what it takes to stay competitive.

3. Smashing Conference: March 18 – 19, June 17 – 18     

Oxford, UK    New York, NY            

Calling all web design enthusiasts: Featuring 18 speakers and interactive, hands-on talks, this conference is for you. It will be held at the Times Center, and there’s only 350 available seats. So act fast! Feel free to travel a little farther as this conference is also being held in England, just a quick trip across the pond.

4. Lean UX NYC: April 10 – 12

New York, NY

Three days of meeting entrepreneurs, web developers, and designers – you can’t miss this conference that features 40 speakers and 25 workshops. This is the place to be if you want to learn more about rapid design tactics and ways to increase product validity.

5. Web Afternoon: April, May, October

Boston, MA   Austin, TX   Charleston, SC

Billed as “the event for people who love the web,” this highly anticipated conference happens in three cities throughout the year. Although it’s only a half-day, it’s jam packed with great info, an informative Q&A, and great networking opportunities.

8. AIGA: October 23 – 24

AIGA, the professional association for design, will be hosting this conference at the Marriott Marquis in New York City. Created by designers for designers, this conference also covers culture, economics, commerce, and pretty much everything else you’ll need to know.
