How To Create Your Own Custom Box

Written By: Leslie Taylor | Article Date: August 08, 2020

The consumer landscape is always evolving. The impact of current events, market trends, and new technology have many businesses struggling not just to adapt, but also to stand out and stay relevant. It’s not easy. The competition is high, shoppers are discerning, and the entire buying experience is just as crucial. Even if you have managed to bring in new customers, how do you maintain satisfaction and loyalty?

That first impression counts. Make it a good one with custom box packaging. Aside from your product, the packaging is the only promotional tool that reaches all your customers. It may well be one of their first offline encounters with your brand.

There’s been significant growth in e-commerce in recent years. A study from Statista shares that e-commerce sales are expected to reach $4.2 trillion by the end of the year, and is anticipated to keep on growing. Your custom box should set the tone and show off who you are as a brand. A unique and memorable unboxing experience encourages customers to keep buying, share positive reviews, and recommend your brand to others.

Dotcom Distribution, an e-commerce logistics provider, shared that branded or gift-like packaging had the most significant, positive impact on shoppers aged 18 to 29 years. Their 2020 consumer study on more than 1,500 U.S. online shoppers showed that 52% think that custom boxes make a brand seem more upscale and 30% of them are more likely to make a repeat purchase.

The first thing to ask yourself is: what kind of custom box are you looking for? We have three (3) types of custom boxes you can choose from depending on your requirement.

Box Specifications

After selecting the type of box, you can begin customizing the dimensions and materials. The product page order calculator lets you specifically customize the length, width, and depth of your custom box. Set the specifications of your custom printed box to include all the necessary information and aspects of your design.

  • Cardstock provides a smoother surface and high-quality printing, perfect for product boxes. Its premium appearance makes it perfect for store display. Choose from 14 pt., 18 pt., and 24 pt. cardstock.
  • Corrugated cardboard is ideal for heavier products or items that will be sent in the mail. Corrugated boxes are easy to recycle and store away for future use. Choose from white, premium white, and kraft brown corrugated cardboard that is strong enough to withstand multiple handling and deliveries.

Our sturdy material options are designed for form and function. For product boxes, you can add finishing options like matte, gloss, and high-gloss UV coating to elevate your designs. This is typically applied during the last part of the printing process.

The Design Canvas on the left shows how your box would look when laid flat. This is where you add the elements of your design. It reflects the box dimensions selected, including the dielines for both the outer and inner sides of the box. You can hover over each box section and click to start designing.

After selecting your specs on the online calculator, you can start designing your custom box online. You can view a 3D simulation of your design with dielines to indicate where your box will be cut and creased.

This makes it easy to select and design every flap and all sides of the box. With our box design tool, it’s easy to upload images, add text, background colors, shapes and lines, and modify the custom box specs.

Save your design, confirm your order, and our pre-press team will check to make sure it’s ready for printing.
