Tips for appearing ‘friendly’ in a postcard marketing campaign

Postcards are like miniature billboards; they offer enticing marketing information through a visually appealing format. But because they are small and relatively cheap, you can look to postcards or greeting cards as a particularly effective direct marketing technique.

What's more, postcards are personal and offer a more friendly tone than the typical mail flyer or handout. Although these mediums do have their own functions, you should weigh your business' marketing goals and styles against the effectiveness of each.

"Make your postcard look at first glance like a message from a friend instead of like an advertising announcement," writes Bob Leduc for Business Know How. "It creates a warm friendly reception for your postcard."

Use the same typestyle and layout for your postcards as you would a friend or relative, Leduc advises. Placing a date at the top or a friendly "from" designation at the end of the message can also serve to evoke a kind but professional tone, as it is important to strike a balance between the two.
