Happy New Year! Well, almost…it’s just around the corner. Some people plan ahead, draw up a marketing plan and then stick with it throughout the year. As for the rest of us, well, not so much. If you are like many people who seem to get caught off guard every year by the rapidly approaching holidays, now is the time to put together some last-minute marketing strategies to make this a successful Holiday season. After all, this is the time of year when consumers are willing to spend a little bit more.

1. Email Campaign
Put the most attention on your best customers since they are the most likely to respond. The most effective email message is the one tailored to the customer. Try not to send the same message to everyone and use last years data to determine what message each customers should receive.1

2. Gift Cards
Make end-of-year buying simple for your customers. Offer gift cards on your website or in your club. Try adding an incentive to entice customers to buy. Offer a cash-back incentive or an additional gift card when they spend a certain amount. For example, one company last season offered “$20 Come Back Cash in the New Year.” With the purchase of a $100 or more gift card, the customer received their own $20 gift card.2

3. Cause Marketing
Invite your customers in for an afternoon of discounted drinks, tasty eats and encourage them to make a donation to your favorite charity in exchange for a discount on one of your products. They bring in a donation, you get a renewed interest in your product and everyone feels good about this kind of marketing.

4. Table Toppers
Make sure your table topper cards are clean, fresh and timely. Any of the above ideas should be advertised to your walk-in crowd. Change out your messaging weekly with up-to-date copy. Save on time and money by doubling up and using your mailing postcard designs for your table toppers as well.

5. Greeting Card Blast
It’s certainly not too late to send Greeting Cards since you can target to more than Christmas or New Years. For instance, how about a Happy January 2009 message? In the holiday spirit the important thing is to say thank you for a customer’s business – not necessarily to ask them to buy something.
