Sweet Spot #21: Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget

Recently updated on October 18th, 2017 at 05:46 pm

I, like most people, am guilty of what some call “champagne taste on a beer budget” or “eyes bigger than her stomach” or “expensive” or simply “living beyond her means”. It’s a heavy load to bear, especially without help from trust funds or doctor salaries. Lately, with the help of a growing number of discount shopping sites, made popular by Groupon, shopping has become much more accessible, affordable, easier and less stressful than outlets and Ross. No more buying generic or fake to get the deal; we want the real deal, the name brand!

Sweet Spot #20: Geeking Out with my Tablet Out

Recently updated on November 5th, 2017 at 11:59 pm

Last weekend you might have noticed an electricity surge by way of Vegas, because it hosted the annual Consumer Electronics Show, where the worlds leading manufacturers/retailers of all things technology gather to exhibit the latest and greatest gadgets. Every year there are show favorites and every year there is a popular trend in the new “it” gadget. This year, it was all about TABLETS! This last year, tablets have been made commercially viable by, but I must iterate, not invented by, Apple. Many companies showcased their own tablets, in hopes to compete with their popular iPad. The clear “Best In Show” gadget of CES? The Motorola Xoom tablet!

Sweet Spot #16: Summertime Signature Sipping Station

Recently updated on June 2nd, 2020 at 05:11 pm

Labor Day is right around the corner, do you have plans? Time to plan your end-of-summer celebration! As a perpetual-yet-purely-non-professional party planner myself, I always find grandiose new ideas I want to try or delicious little new foods I want to make for my guests, but I always run into the same problem… I run out of time. Some of you might be saying, ‘Candie, how can you run out of time when you plan each event months in advance!?!’ LOL, I say this to myself every time too! I’ve found that it’s not the planning that needs more time, it’s the preparation, and there’s not much wiggle room there, since most is done the day of a party. So I’ve learned to simplify each idea into under 3 steps and under 10 minutes, with easy instructions that I can delegate.

Sweet Spot #15: Do I Make Scents to you?

Recently updated on December 16th, 2010 at 12:57 pm

Have you ever torn out one of those fragrance ads in a magazine to test out a new scent? I know I have.

I do a lot of party planning for my friends and the next one I have coming up is a baby shower for my bestest of all bestest of friends. She’s a paper lover like me, so the usual Evite won’t do; it’s got to be old-fashioned invites sent through the mail! I’m wracking my brain for cool ideas, and an ad for perfume caught my eye… er… nose! Wouldn’t baby powder–scented invitations be so fitting?!
