Business cards an emerging trend in QR marketing

As businesses begin to understand the marketing value of quick-response codes, others are already one-step ahead, discovering new uses for an innovation that many have heralded as the bridge between print and digital mediums.

Last week, mobile payments company Mobio found QR code scans grew by 1,200 percent during the second half of 2010, and now, a number of businesses are throwing their hats into the burgeoning QR business card ring.

Korean tech firm Youhost announced this week it has developed a product that provides a direct link to a professional's homepage when his or her QR business card is scanned. The company anticipates demand for such products will grow substantially this year, as businesses and entrepreneurs seek ways to connect their print and online marketing initiatives.

"Business cards can be a simple yet powerful tool in job hunting and contact building," writes Leah Oripaypay for instantShift. "In just a few square inches, they contain all of the pertinent information a new contact could ever need. They let prospective clients know who you are, what you offer and how you can be reached."
